Chloe C., wife of Rev. A. S. DOUGHTY of this city, died Monday, after an illness of little more than a week. She was a daughter of Abraham STANFORD, an early settler of Jefferson county, was born here December 28th, 1845, and had spent most of her life in this community. She was married to Mr. DOUGHTY in 1865. They had no children of their own, but reared two foster children. Mrs. DOUGHTY had been a member of the Free Methodist church for many years and her entire life was in accord with its teachings. She was kindly in her manner, thoughtful of the welfare of those about her, a devoted wife and daughter, a sympathising friend. Obituary.

Cloe Cemanth STANFORD was born Dec. 28, 1845, near Fairfield, Iowa, and died Feb. 5, 1906. She was married to A. S. DOUGHTY in the year 1865, who lives to mourn her departure. They raised two foster-children, Ira S. and Jessie Mabel who mourn the loss of a mother as dear to them as their own lives.

She was soundly converted at the age of 15 and united with the M. C. church. Shortly after her marriage, when the Free Methodist church came into the neighborhood where she lived, 3 miles southeast of Fairfield, she and her husband became charter members of the first Free Methodist class organized in southern Iowa. She traveled with her husband in the itinerant ministry for 15 years and a part of that time labored as an evangelist until failing health compelled her to sever from active service. She was very earnest and devoted in her religious duties and services, a faithful attendant on all the means of grace both public and private. When no longer able to travel, her home was ever open to provide for those engaged in the Lord's work, her hands ever ready to minister to their wants even when poor health would have excused her.

She was ever a loyal Free Methodist and grieved when she saw evidence of any falling away. As a wife and mother she was one of the most devoted women that ever graced the home, ever ready to sacrifice her very life if need be for their welfare. Her end was peaceful. She rests from her labors and her works follow her.
