The Fairfield Ledger, Feb. 4, 1885, Page 3, col. 5.

DIED VERY SUDDENLY. The Brighton papers of last week note the death of Sexton Mount, a Jefferson County pioneer, at his home in Walnut township, this county, Tuesday night of last week. He had been in excellent health all winter, and on Tuesday evening spent several hours with some neighbors who made him a friendly call, not retiring until 10 o’clock. In the morning he made no response to the summons to breakfast and a visit to his room disclosed the fact that he had died during the night. He was lying on his back, with his hands folded peacefully across his breast, and had evidently died without a struggle. ‘Squire Bidwell held a coroner’s inquest on the remains, and the jury returned a verdict of death from heart disease, the physicians holding the post mortem examination being satisfied that that was the direct cause. Mr. Mount was 74 years old, and he came to this county in 1838 or perhaps a little earlier. He probably died on land which he purchased directly from the government, and has been quite a large holder of real estate. Mr. Mount had won many friends during his long residence here, and they esteemed him for his integrity, industry and manly worth. He was a reader of The Ledger from its first publication, and we know we shall miss his regular visits tour office. He leaves three children, a married daughter living in Kansas, and a son and daughter at Brighton.
