Eliga Burton BROWN
Eliga Burton BROWN was born at Troy, Ohio, May 10, 1859 and departed this life at the Burlington hospital, Burlington, Ia., March 31, 1927 at the age of 67 years, 11 months and 21 days (sic - 67-10-21).
When a small child he came to Iowa with his parents and located near Augusta, Iowa. Soon after moving there his mother died and he was taken by Mr. and Mrs. Benjaman SAYMER'S (sic) who raised him to manhood.
In 1872, Mr. and Mrs SAYMERS moved to Batavia, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Emma L. ALFRED Nov. 13, 1888. To this union were born two sons and two daughters, George of Mt. Pleasant, Ia., and Neal of Burlington, Ia., Wanda and Rena, having preceded him in death.
He united with the Christian church of Batavia, Iowa, in 1901 and lived a faithful life to the end.
He leaves to mourn his going his wife Emma; two sons, George of Mt. Pleasant, Ia. and Neal of Burlington; three brothers James of Troy, Ohio, Andrew of Neodsha, Kan., and Timothy of La Mar, Mo., one sister, Mrs. Robert WILSON, also of Troy, Ohio; and one grand-daughter, Mrs. Lola ADAMS, besides other relatives and a host of friends.

Note: Eliga was killed in an explosion in Burlington. The obituary from April 1st was quite graphic in its details and we elected not to post it here. Eliga is buried in Batavia Cemetery, in the old section. His wife Emma died in 1950 and is also buried in Batavia Cemetery, but without a headstone.
