ALFRED FUNERAL WILL BE TOMORROW AT BATAVIA CHURCH

Funeral services for Asher E. ALFRED, former Fairfield young man, will be held tomorrow, Mar. 20, at 2 p.m. in the Christian church at Batavia in charge of Rev. S. P. Williamson. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Fairfield. The body is at the W. W. Campbell funeral home in Batavia, and will remain there until the time of the service.

ALFRED, 28, native of Batavia and resident of Burlington four years, died at Mercy hospital in Burlington (note: in Des Moines Co., IA) at midnight Tuesday after a week's illness with pneumonia.

Mr. ALFRED was born in Batavia, March 14, 1908. His 28th birthday found him ill. Attending school in Fairfield he graduated from high school here in 1927. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge. For the past three years he was employed at the Bouquet super-service station in Burlington.

Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James ALFRED of Burlington; his grandmother, Mrs. Sarah ARMSTRONG, Batavia, and a brother, William (Stub) of Burlington. One sister preceded him in death. He was unmarried.

ALFRED RITES HELD FRIDAY
Services for Former Fairfield Young Man Held In Batavia

Many relatives and friends gathered at the Batavia Christian church at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon to pay tribute to Ascher (sic) E. ALFRED, 28, former Fairfield young man who passed away Wednesday at his home in Burlington.

Rev. S. P. Williamson of Fairfield conducted the services. Music was furnished by Mrs. Ada Lawson and Mrs. Bessie Boysel of Batavia who sang "In the Garden" and "God Will Take Care of You." Casket atendants (sic) were former Fairfield classmates and friends, Ralph Jones, Jack Burns, Frank Lee, Arthur Baker, Fred Walker and Floyd Keltner. Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery in Fairfield.

Among those from Fairfield who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Sam Barnett and family, Harry Knause family, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Mullenix, Mrs. Mel Stephens, Mrs. Floyd Harrison, Mrs. John Murphy, Mrs. Ralph Maxwell, Mrs. Eli Kinser, Mrs. Jack Case and the pallbearers.

Mr. ALFRED was born in Batavia March 14, 1908 and spent his early life in that community later moving with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James ALFRED, to Fairfield where he attended the local schools. He has been employed for the past several years in Burlington.

Following a brief period of illness with pneumonia he passed away at the home of his parents in Burlington.
