OBITUARY

Cloa Chester, son of John and Mary Eleanor Smith Tilford, was born near Salem, Henry County, Iowa, December 5, 1882, departed this life October 21st, 1935, age 52 years, 10 months, 16 days.

He being the second child in a family of three children; he attended the public school near the home and spent some time in Whittier Academy of Salem, Iowa.

October 19, 1910, he was united in marriage to Elsie Marrian Peterson, they resided on a farm in Jackson Twp., Henry County, Iowa, later moving to Jefferson County, Iowa, where they have since resided.

To this union two daughters were born, Mildred Irene and Marjorie Elbertine. On October 21, 1935, the community was greatly shocked when they learned of his sudden death while working alone in the timber, perhaps heart failure. He was converted when a lad, living a very industrious, consistent christian life.

His parents and one sister, Mrs. Mable Brokken, preceded to a home prepared for all those that love Him, the Savior of Man.

He leaves to mourn his passing his faithful wife, two daughters, one sister, Mrs. Hattie Hollingsworth, one niece, Kathryn Lorraine Brokken and a great many other relatives and a host of friends.

He will be greatly missed in the community where he has lived the greater part of his married life.

Funeral services were conducted by Guy Hunting, Salem, Iowa.

Pallbearers: Ray Church, Wright Church, Walter Crane, Chester Elliott, H.L. Hunting, J.E. Frary, Loren Frary and Raymond Hannah.

Duet, Mrs. Gladys Cornick and Mrs. Hattie Howell. Male Quartette, Leo Kauffman, H.L. Hunting, Marvin Hunting and Guy Hunting. Interment in the Lambert Cemetery.

A large gathering of friends came to pay tribute to the worth of a splendid Christian man at the Baptist Church at Round Prairie. The church would only seat one-third of the gathering. The beautiful tribute in flowers sent by friends and near relatives was very comforting.
