OBITUARY.

A large number of friends attended the funeral of Private Clarence F. JOHNSON son of Mr. nd Mrs. (sic) Andrew JOHNSON, which ws (sic) held from the Upland Lutheran church, near Lockridge, on the afternoon of October 1.

The service was in charge of Rev. E. H. Sandeen, pastor, assisted by Rev. Bert Samuelson of the Trinity Lutheran church. The Trinity choir rendered beautiful selections and Rev. Sandeen sang a solo.

The casket and grave were beautifuly decorated with flags and bunting and many floral offerings. Frank Murphy, Guy Maxwell, Virgil Maxwell and Fred Briggs bore the body to the grave.

Victor R., brother of Clarence who also left for service on July 22nd, and who is now serving on the U Sb (sic) battleship Illinois, was unable to attend the funeral.

It will be remembreed (sic) that Private JOHNSON left with the selective draft men on July 22nd for Camp Pike, Arkansas, from where he was transfered to Camp Rariton, New Jersey, for a short time and later to Springfield, Massachusets (sic). where he was serving as a guard at the arsenal (sic). He died at the city hospital after a few day's illness with Spanish influenza, which finally developed into pneumonia.

Private JOHNSON was an estimable young man of Lockridge township and leaves may (sic) friends where ever he was known.
