Mary R. Holmes, 94, of Birmingham died at 7:35 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

The funeral was held at 11:30 a.m. today at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. Mike Renken officiating. Burial was in the Maple Hill Cemetery at Birmingham.

Mrs. Holmes was born Feb. 28, 1911, in Mystic, the daughter of James Hugh and Myrtle Brewer Wade. She married Osborne Holmes May 5, 1966, in Missouri.

Mrs. Holmes attended school in Centerville and Roosevelt school in Fairfield. She lived in Centerville and Fairfield before moving to Birmingham. She had worked at Teeter Cleaners and Brown Lynch Scott in Fairfield.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Shirley McClurg and husband Frank of Bettendorf; one son Jerry Kessel and wife Betty of Geneseo, Ill.; seven granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, James and Ted Wade; and one sister, Bernice Countryman.
