The Portland Oregonian
Dec. 23, 1870.

The Portland Oregonian of Dec. 23 1870, then the leading newspaper of the Northwest, framed an editorial in heavy “mourning lines:” “Few in Oregon, especially of the old settlers, did not know Judge Olney, and all who knew him will receive the news of his death with regret.....He was a ready man of active mind, quick perception, full of suggestions and fertile in expedients. He was a useful man to Oregon and prominent for twenty years.”

“Cyrus Olney,” by Sidney Teiser, attorney-biographer of Portland, Oregon.

(Cyrus Olney died in Astoria Dec. 21 1870.)
