Mrs. William M. HUFSTEDLER, for years a resident of Fairfield, and widow of one of Fairfield's leading merchants, died this morning at the Jefferson County hospital, after an illness of less than two weeks.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 o'clock at the Murray undertaking parlors and will be in charge of Dr. U. S. Smith of the First Methodist church. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Mrs. HUFSTEDLER was born in Pottsville, Pa., November 12, 1849. She was the youngest daughter of Henry and Angeline MOHR. The family came to Iowa when she was five years old and her life since had been spent in Fairfield or its immediate vicinity. As a young woman she taught at No. 9 school, a short distance north of Fairfield. She married William M. HUFSTEDLER shortly after his return from the Civil War.
Mrs. William LAUENROTH of Burlington, and Dr. Harry C. MOHR of Cambridge, Mass., niece and nephew, and Mrs. W. H. MOHR, a sister-in-law, are her closest surviving relatives. Mrs. MOHR, who is spending the winter in California, was notified by telegraph of the death but would be unable to reach here in time for the funeral.
Mrs. HUFSTEDLER was an enthusiastic member of the Fairfield Garden club, and in her last years found her greatest interest in her flower garden. It was small in size but a gem in arrangement, and attracted much attention. Horticulturists at Ames visited it with much pleasure and exchanged flowers with her. She like the new and fashionable flowers but clung to the old fashioned ones as well.
Mrs. HUFSTEDLER was a member of the Pythian Sisters and of the Methodist church.
Recently she had made two trips to California and also had made a trip east, visiting New England and New York state.
