Page FIVE, Column 2MRS. OLA HOLLAND
Ola Marie JOHNSON was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George JOHNSON. She was born Dec. 13, 1887 near Ollie, Iowa.
The JOHNSON family moved to Black Hawk township years ago and there she spent her happy girlhood days. On September 20, 1911 she was united to the one of her choice, Jess G. HOLLAND, and lacking but one month they had lived a happy wedded life of 21 years. Three sons came to bless this home, Gerald, Percy and Robert, who with the father and dear relatives can wonder why, oh why, was our dear one taken seemingly when she was so greatly needed. But we can only look to God and say Thy will, not mine be done.
She had been in poor health for some time, and had undergone several operations, ever hopeful that her health would be restored, having been at the Des Moines hospital for four weeks. Thinking the last operation was successful, she suffered a severe hemorrhage which her constitution was too weak to stand, and in a few moments all was over with, seemingly in the prime of life, forty-four years, as she was so useful.
Ola as she was so well known, was of an unselfish, self-sacrificing nature, always of a cheerful, lively disposition, and it was a joy to meet her. Beautiful in form and feature, she made friends wherever she went. Being the youngest of the family, she was the idol of the home.
After her marriage she, with her husband moved from Jefferson county, and Des Moines has been her home recently, but no doubt she made many friends in their new home.
To know her was to esteem and love her, whatever she did she did well--her taking an active part in the church and Sunday School work, her constant trust and fidelity gave her power, not only in the home but in the community. Her memory is enshrined while life shall last in the hearts of her loved ones.
Besides her husband and sons she leaves an aged mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. A. D. DILLY of Oskaloosa, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Zella CARMICHAEL, Oskaloosa; Mrs. Bessie BASKELL, Amana; three brothers, Chester JOHNSON of Peoria, Roscoe and Orville of Fairfield, and hosts of friends. She was a member of the West side Christian church of Springfield, Ill., and passed away as she had lived, a consistent, Christian life and fully believing that she would meet her Pilot face to face when she would cross the bar.
