An Old Resident of Jefferson County,

William M. HOAGLAND, who died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. W. A. STALLMAN, in Liberty township Thursday, had been a resident of Jefferson county continuously since the fall of 1855. He was born in Butler county, O., March 27th, 1822, grew to manhood in that community and was married there January 15th, 1845, to Maria SCHOOLEY, with whom he lived for nearly sixty-two years. They were the parents of six children, only two of whom survive the father, H. C. HOAGLAND of this city and Mrs. STALLMAN. The family came to Jefferson county in 1855 and Mr. HOAGLAND engaged in farming for many years. He removed to this city in 1879, where he was in business until declining health compelled him to retire. He was a modest, unassuming man, honest, straightforward and conscientious in his relations with his fellows and a model citizen. He had been a member of the Free Methodist church for many years and adhered closely to its teachings. The body was buried in this city Thursday, Rev. Lewis Mendenhall conducting the funeral services. There are many friends who will sympathize with the aged wife and children in their loss.
