Mrs. Maria HOAGLAND, 84 Years Old, Died Here On SundayMrs. Maria HOAGLAND, one of the few remaining pioneers of Jefferson county, died Sunday evening about 7;30 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. A. STAHLMAN near Libertyville, after about ten weeks illness.
Maria SCHOOLEY-HOAGLAND daughter of Mahlon and Abigail SCHOOLEY, was born in Goshen, Clearmont county, Ohio January 10, 1824. She was united in marriage to William HOAGLAND of Middleton, Ohio, in 1844. In the early fifties they came to Iowa and settled, and in 1850 they came to Fairfield to make their home. Fairfield and Jefferson county wsa (sic) their home afterwards until death called them from this earth.
Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. HOAGLAND, four of whom with their father have preceeded their mother to the other land, the husband and father having passed away on July 25, 1906.
Two children, Harrison C. HOAGLAND of this city and Mrs. W. A. STAHLMAN of near Libertyville are left to mourn the departure of their mother. Besides these two children, a brother of the deceased, T. C. SCHOOLEY of Abingdon survives her.
About ten weeks ago Mrs. HOAGLAND fell and fractured her hip, this fracture finally terminated in blood poisoning which caused her death. When twenty years old Mrs. HOAGLAND united with the Methodist church in which she held her membership until 1875 when she transferred her letter to the Free Methodist church of which she was a faithful and devout member until her her death.
Mrs. HOAGLAND was well and favorably known by a large number of people in Jefferson county and her death will be sincerely mourned by all her acquaintances.
The funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at ten o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. STAHLMAN near Libertyville and the remains will be brought to this city and laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery.

Maria SCHOOLEY, daughter of Mahlon and Abigail SCHOOLEY, was born in Goshen, Clearmont Co., Ohio, Jan 10th, 1824, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. A. STALLMAN, where she was tenderly cared for, at the age of 84 years (sic), 1 month and 18 days. She was united in marriage to Wm. HOAGLAND of Middletown, Butler Co., Ohio, in 1844. They came from Ohio, and settled in Iowa in the early fifties. In the fall of 1856 they came to Jefferson County, where they continued to reside until death came. Six children were born to this union, four with the husband having preceded her in death. Her husband died July 25, 1906. She leaves to mourn their loss, one son, H. C. HOAGLAND of Fairfield, Iowa, and a daughter, Mrs. W. A. STALLMAN of near Libertyville. She united with the M. E. church at the age of 20, and transferred her membership to the Free Methodist church in 1875. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, and respected by all who knew her.

Page 8, Column 3... Mrs. HOAGLAND died Sunday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. STALLMAN. Ten weeks ago she fell, breaking her hip and has been a great sufferer ever since. Funeral services were conducted at the home by Prof. Hehner of the M. E. church and the remains were placed to rest in the Fairfield cemetery beside those of her husband. A good woman has gone, one who was loved and respected by all who knew her. ...
