Verne E. HIX, 60, of Prescott, Ariz., former Fairfield resident, died today at 8:05 a.m. at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston,Tex.
Arrangements are pending at Behner Funeral Home.

Services for Verne E. HIX, 60, former Fairfield resident, will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. William Hendricks officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
The casket is scheduled to arrive early Saturday morning from Houston, Texas, where HIX died at 8:05 a.m. Thursday at the M.D. Anderson Hospital.
Members of the family will stay at the home of Helen DROZ, 808 S. Second, while in Fairfield.
HIX had been employed by the United Telephone System for 40 years when he retired March 4, 1980. At the time of retirement he was president of Gulf States-United Telephone Co. with headquarters at Gyler, Texas.
He began his career as a lineman with the Iowa State Telephone Co. in Fairfield in 1939.
After serving with the Signal Corps during World War II he transferred to the Central Missouri and Arkansas Companies at Warrensburg, Mo., as plant manager. His success continued in the telephone business until his retirement. The family home is in Prescott, Arizona.
Verne E. HIX was born April 4, 1920, in Stockport, the son of LeRoy and Maude L. METZ HIX. He married Lela E. HENDRICKS Aug. 19, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. She survives.
In addition to his widow, who is also a former resident of Fairfield, he is survived by two sons, James L. HIX and Steven V. HIX both of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Kenneth L. HIX, Fairfield, and Clyde R. HIX, Clinton; two sisters, Helen DROZ and Hazel A. HIX both of Fairfield. He was preceded in death by his parents.

PLEASANT PLAIN--Visiting the past weekend in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roman GEVOCK were their children, Theresa GEVOCK and her frien (sic), Bartley Martinez of Davenport and Mr. and Mrs. Joe GEVOCK and family of Peoria, Ill. Mrs. Joe GEVOCK came especially for the last rites for her uncle, Vern HIX.
