Mrs. Jessie W. HISEL, 89, retired school teacher, died at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Jefferson County Hospital. Her death followed a long illness.
Mrs. HISEL taught school for 55 years, 48½ years of that time in the Fairfield school system. The last 27 years was spent in the first grade at Washington School where she was honored by the Board of Education at the time of her retirement May 29, 1954.
As Jessie WRAY, she began her teaching career in rural schools in Buchanan Township east of Fairfield, later joining the Fairfield school system.
She has probably touched the lives of more Fairfield students than any other teacher.
Last rites will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Christian Church with the Rev. Ned Gillum in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The body is at the Weston Behner Funeral Home.
Jessie W. HISEL was born Aug. 20, 1880, at Alexis, Ill., but spent most all of her life in Jefferson County. The daughter of James and Elizabeth ALLEN WRAY, she was married to Charles HISEL Dec. 30, 1920. He died in 1927 (sic - 1931). Mrs. HISEL was a member of the Christian Church.
She is survived by one brother, Fred P. WRAY, Fairfield, and a sister, Mrs. X. C. NADY, Johnstown, Ariz. She was preceded in death by one sister.
