John C. HICKENBOTTOM, 74, of Sigourney, died at 2:10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 1996, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA).
The service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Behner Funeral Home with Carl Willhoit officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. A memorial has been established.
HICKENBOTTOM was born Feb. 16, 1922, at Parsonsville in Jefferson County, the son of Chester and Florence HOLLANDER HICKENBOTTOM. A lifelong resident of the Fairfield area, he owned and operated Hickenbottom Heavy Construction business for 50 years. He was a member of First Christian Church in Fairfield.
Surviving are a son, Gary of Ottumwa; two daughters, Sue STOVER of Madison, Wis., Beth WALTERS of Chattanooga, Tenn.; five grandchildren; two brothers, Virgil and Hugh, both of Fairfield; and a sister, Francis MARTIN of Fairfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Florence; and three brothers, Vern, Marshall and Leslie.

First wife was Phyllis Marie PRINGLE who he married in 1941; subsequent wives were Willa Mae KEMP in 1960 (herself married several times, her marriage to John noting her as Willa Mae JOHNSON) and Lois Beatta TRABERT PARRETT. John's gravestone has an inscription for Willa, however she died in 2008 and was buried in Waterloo, IA.
