BATAVIA -- Dorothy Eleanor "Dot" HICKENBOTTOM, 79, of 2058 Fir Ave., Batavia died Oct. 14, 1999, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.
She was born Dec. 4, 1919, at Creston to Allen Henry "A.H." and Vera Faye DUDLEY WOODS. She married Virgil L. HICKENBOTTOM in Fairfield Dec. 31, 1940; he died Nov. 21, 1997.
She grew up in Iowa and Missouri as the family moved often to follow her father and stepfather's careers on the C.B.&Q. Railroad. She graduated from St. Joseph, Mo., High School. She lived all her married life in Jefferson County. A homemaker, she helped her husband farm.
She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Vera McELDERRY of Batavia; four grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a brother John MELODY of Newark, Penn.
She was preceded in death by her parents and stepparents; and three brothers, Robert, Kenneth and Allen WOODS.
The body has been cremated. A private family services (sic) will be held at a later date.
Memorials have been established to the Southeastern Iowa Sportsman's Society or to the Iowa Youth Hunter Education Challenge.
Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of arrangements.
