Lifetime Jefferson County farmer Chester L. HICKENBOTTOM died at 12:10 a.m. Thursday at the Jefferson County Hospital long term care unit at age 91. He had been at the hospital since 1981.
The Rev. Charles Kincaid will officiate at 2 p.m. funeral services Saturday at the First Christian Church, where HICKENBOTTOM was a member. Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
HICKENBOTTOM was born in Parsonsville on Nov. 9, 1891, the son of Perry and Rose PARSONS HICKENBOTTOM. On Feb. 22, 1911, he married Florence M. HOLLANDER at Salina. She died Aug. 25, 1977.
In addition to his wife, HICKENBOTTOM was preceded in death by a son, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a brother and a sister.
He is survived by one daughter, Frances MARTIN of Fairfield, and five sons: Virgil, Leslie and John of Batavia and Marshall and Hugh of Fairfield. He is survived by a brother Joe HICKENBOTTOM and a sister Mary BROSTROM, both of Fairfield. Fifteen grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 10 step great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren are also living.
Memorials may be made to either the long term care unit of Jefferson County Hospital or to the Heart Fund.
HICKENBOTTOM was the subject of a series of eight articles in the Ledger in the summer of 1976 in which he discussed sweeping technological changes he had seen in his lifetime and related interesting stories about Jefferson County history.

HICKENBOTTOM, DECEASED, BEARING DATE OF THE 5TH DAY OF JANUARY, 1983, WAS ADMITTED TO PROBATE IN THE ABOVE NAMED COURT AND THAT VIRGIL L. HICKENBOTTOM & MARSHALL E. HICKENBOTTOM WERE APPOINTED EXECUTOR OF SAID ESTATE.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN THAT ANY ACTION TO SET ASIDE SAID WILL MUST BE BROUGHT IN THE DISTRICT COURT OF SAID COUNTY WITHIN SIX MONTHS FROM THE DATE OF THE SECOND PUBLICATION OF THIS NOTICE, OR THEREAFTER BE FOREVER BARRED.
