J. W. HERMAN DEAD.

John W. HERMAN, a well known resinent (sic) of this city passed away Wednesday at the hospital in Ottumwa after a short illness (note: in Wapello Co., IA). The remains were brought to this city yesterday afternoon and interred in Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. HERMAN left this city only a few weeks ago for Ottumwa where he entered the hospital to take treatment for cancer of the liver. He grew steadily weaker and succumb (sic) to the disease Wednesday.

Mr. HERMAN is survived by one son whose home is in Kansas. Mr. HERMAN's wife preceeded (sic) him in death some years ago. He was a quiet unassuming man and one who was well liked by all his acquaintances(.) During his residence here he was employed in the C. A. Woolhaf restaurant.

Note: Buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, IA, in Lot Old.P.094, with no gravestone. His wife was Fannie COWLES who died July 29, 1903, and is buried in the Public Grounds section of Evergreen, in Row 2, Space 27; no obituary was found locally for her.
