RichlandJames Austin WOLCOTT, 85, of Richland passed away August 4, 2024.
He was born in Fairfield on August 17, 1938, to Julius Cedric and Emma Mabel WOLCOTT. Jim graduated from Richland High School in 1956 and married Mary Louise ALLEN WOLCOTT in Delia, KS March 2, 1957. Jim worked in construction as a bridge builder for several years in Iowa, Kansas, and Texas, but his favorite vocation was being a farmer. He was a hard worker, a great neighbor, and the kind of friend you could count on. After his retirement in 2003, Jim and Mary spent their winters in southern Texas where they enjoyed retirement activities in the Big Valley RV Park. Jim enjoyed the outdoors, and reading Civil War books. They also enjoyed attending many dances at Polishville.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mary, and his son Tom WOLCOTT (Anita) of Niceville, FL., three grandsons: Jeb WOLCOTT (Allyson) of Solon, IA; Austin WOLCOTT of Tallahassee, FL; Bridger WOLCOTT of Rubio, two granddaughters: Karree WOLCOTT of Fairfield; Tia WOLCOTT of Niceville, five great grandchildren, and his sister Karen GREINER (Myron) of Richland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two children Jeff and Jane.
A graveside service will be held at Friends Cemetery in Richland at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday August 8, 2024 (note: in Keokuk Co., IA). Memorials to the Richland Fire Department or to the Richland First Responders may be brought to the cemetery or mailed to the family, 309 East Harrison Street, Richland, IA 52585. Arrangements are in the care of Gould Funeral Home of Richland.
