FAIRFIELD -- Donald E. HAUPERT, 79, of 1624 U.S. Highway 34, Fairfield, died Oct. 11, 2000, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center (note: in Wapello Co., IA).
He was born July 13, 1921, to Nick and Mary WAGNER HAUPERT near Fremont. He married Eloise HOLLINGSWORTH on Oct. 29, 1947. They lived in Pekin before moving to Fairfield in 1957.
He served in the Army during World War II in the European Theater, first in the infantry and then in bomb disposal. He was a livestock buyer. He operated sales barns in Fairfield, North English, Oxford, Ottumwa and Columbus Junction before starting the Haupert Livestock Co. and Truck Lines. He was currently semi-retired. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, B.P.O.E. # 1192 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by a daughter, Sheri BETZ of Fairfield; a granddaughter; a brother, Joe HAUPERT of Ottumwa; and a sister, Gertrude BURDICK of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kip Allen HAUPERT; his parents; and six sisters, Christine LaBELLE, Marie WHITE, Marguerite ANDERSEN, Evelyn LEE, Lucille KEMPENAAR, and Betty DOUD.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield with the Rev. Stephen C. Page officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Raymond Funeral Home. A wake service will be at 7 p.m. during visitation.
Memorials have been established to the St. Mary Catholic Church or to a fund to plant a tree in Fairfield Central Park.
