Page Eight, Column 3DIES TODAY AT NURSING HOME
Chris HARTMAN, 80, prominent retired Jefferson county farmer, passed away at 9:30 a.m. today at the Whaley Nursing Home in Mt. Pleasant where he had been a patient the past three weeks (note: in Henry Co., IA).
Mr. HARTMAN had been in failing health the past three months, and seriously ill for six weeks.
Last rites will be Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with Dr. E. A. Piper in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. HARTMAN was born February 5, 1868, at Edwardsville, Illinois, the son of the late George J. and Maria FRICK HARTMAN. When he was only 2 years old the family moved to Jefferson county and settled near Germanville.
He was united in marriage October 7, 1891, to Minnie SCHMIDT who passed away June 30, 1937. The couple lived on a farm northeast of Fairfield for many years. After the death of his wife, Mr. HARTMAN moved to Fairfield and made his home with a nephew, Taylor HARTMAN, at 406 North Main street for about 10 years.
Mr. HARTMAN was a retired farmer and a member of the Lutheran church.
He is survived by one brother, William F. HARTMAN, Fairfield, and the following nieces and nephews: William Taylor HARTMAN, with whom he made his home; Mrs. Elsie SANDELL, Howard HARTMAN, Harry RINGLESPACH, Richard HARTMAN and Dorothy HARTMAN.
Mr. HARTMAN was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Jefferson County, ss.To All Whom It May concern:
YOU ARE HEREBY NOTIFIED, That an instrument of writing purporting to be the last Will and Testament of Chris HARTMAN, deceased, dated December 6, 1923, having been this day filed, opened and read, Monday the 22nd day of November, 1948, is fixed for hearing proof of same at the Court House in Fairfield, Iowa, before the District Court of said County, or the Clerk of said Court; and at 9:30 o'clock A. M. of the day above mentioned all persons interested are hereby notified and required to appear, and show cause if any they have why said instrument should not be probated and allowed as and for the last Will and Testament of said deceased.
Dated at Fairfield, Iowa, October 25th, 1948.
