Bertha HARTMAN

FAIRFIELD -- Bertha L. HARTMAN, 88, of Fairfield died at 6:30 a.m. April 10, 1988, at her home.

She was born May 24, 1899, in Farmington to Seth W. and Amanda MATHIAS RUARK. She was employed at Fairfield Laundry for 28 years until retiring in 1975. She was a member of Eagles Lodge (sic - Aerie/Club) in Ottumwa and Moose Lodge in Fort Madison. She married David HARTMAN Aug. 20, 1974, in Kahoka, Mo. She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Edna M. LEE of Fairfield; four stepdaughters, Marge DEVORE of Sturgeon, Mo., Betty WAGGONER of Reed Springs, Mo., Ruth HAMMOND of Alliance, Neb., and Evelyn PHILLIPS of Wood Ford, Va.; a stepson, Jerry HARTMAN of Burlington; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and 18 stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son.

The service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, the Rev. James Cecil officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Family visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established to VFW bingo fund.
