Mrs. HARRIS, 82, Taken In Death

Death came early this morning to Mrs. Charlie HARRIS, 82, after a short illness. She passed away about 12:10 a.m. at the Jefferson county hospital.

She became ill Tuesday evening and was taken to the hospital at 10 p.m. She passed away two hours later.

The body was taken to the Raymond funeral home where last rites are pending.

Mary Eliza HARRIS was born April 21, 1878, near Bladensburg in Wapello county, the daughter of Hiram and Elizabeth WERTZ FISHER. She was reared and educated in Wapello county and attended the Nora Springs seminary.

She was united in marriage on Aug. 24, 1898, at the home of her parents, to Charlie HARRIS. They operated a tourist park in Batavia for a number of years before they moved to Fairfield 14 years ago. HARRIS preceded his wife in death on April 9, 1948.

Mrs. HARRIS was a member of the Bladensburg Christian church.

She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Harlan ANDERSON, Fairfield; Carl, Wickliffe, Ohio; Mrs. Francis CUNDY, Roswell, N.M.; Ross, Parksville, Mo.; Mrs. M. M. HITCHCOCK, Hagerman, N.M.; Ernest B., Klickatat, Wash.; and Millard D., Branson, Mo.; and Mary L. HARRIS, Washington, D.C.

She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Sadie VON VOTENBERG (sic - VAN VOLTENBURG), Fairfield, 15 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, one son and one sister.

HARRIS Funeral 10:30 Saturday

Funeral services for Mary Eliza HARRIS will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Raymond funeral home with the Rev. Donald Eagle in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Mrs. HARRIS passed away early Wednesday morning at the Jefferson county hospital after a short illness. She was a former resident of Batavia.
