Page 2, Column 2MRS. JOHN HARPER DIED TODAY AFTER A SHORT ILLNESS
Mrs. John HARPER, one of the well known residents of Fairfield died about 10:30 this morning at her home on East Grimes street. Her death was due to stomach trouble.
Mrs. HARPER had been in her usual health until about two weeks ago when she was taken sick and has steadily declined. She would have been 74 years (sic - 73) of age of the 29th of this month. She is survived by her two sons, O. A. and A. K. HARPER, both of this city. Her husband died three years ago. Mrs. HARPER has been a member of the Methodist church since girlhood.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from her late residence.

The funeral of Mrs. John HARPER will be held from her late residence at two o'clock tomorrow instead of 2:30 as previously announced.
Mrs. John HARPER, formerly, Miss Elizabeth ARNOLD, died at her hoome on West Grimes street, Monday, August 23d. Her death was due to malignant tumor of the stomach. She was confined to her bed three weeks, suffering much the last week.
Her husband, John HARPER died three years ago. She leaves two sons, O. A. and A. K. HARPER and one step son J. M. HARPER all of this city.
She was in her seventy third year, born in Jackson County, Ohio, August 29, 1847(.) She was the daughter of a pioneer Methodist preacher who came from Ohio to Iowa in an early day. The trip was made in a raft down the Ohio river to the Mississippi and up the Mississippi by the Des Moines River to Farmington, Iowa.
She graduated from Whitier Seminary and took up teaching school in Lee County, where she met and married John HARPER. They moved to Fairfield 32 years ago where they had since resided. She has been a member of the Methodist Church from girlhood also associated with different church institutions and Philanthropic Organizations such as Orphanages, Prison Work, Homes for Friendless, etc.
