Never was a community more startled than by the sad and unexpected announcement that Mrs. Nove HARPER had been called to her heavenly home Wednesday morning at 5 o'clock. Her health had been failing for some time, but death was not expected until a few hours before she was called home.
Everything that was known to medical science was done for her. Her friends did all that loving hands could do, but their efforts were in vain.
Lila Bell HAVNER was born in Birmingham, Iowa, April 5, 1894, and was united in marriage to Nove E. HARPER, January 25, 1911. To this union were born four children, Lawrence E., James W., Bessie P. and Mildred M., all of whom survive to miss the kind and thoughtful care that only a mother can give.
She leaves beside her husband, and children, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew HAVNER, three sisters, Sarah HARPER, Ada CRAFTON and Jennie ELDER and one brother, William HAVNER. Two sisters Lillie HAVNER and Zelda HAVNER preceded her in death.
Mrs. HARPER was converted in the Presbyterian church at Salina about eight years ago, which she was still a member. Her funeral was held at the Presbyterian church Thursday afternoon at 2:30 conducted by Rev. H. Sears Thomson. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery. The sympathy of the entire community is with the bereaved husband and children; for what is home without a mother?
