Former treasurer George HARDEN dies

George A. HARDEN, former Jefferson County treasurer, died at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Jefferson County Hospital where he had been a patient for three days.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Harden officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Family visitation will be Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

HARDEN lived his entire life in Jefferson County. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, and served as treasurer for Jefferson County for 20 years before his retirement. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, American Legion and Elks Lodge No. 1192.

HARDEN took over his duties at the Jefferson County Courthouse Dec. 1, 1954, after being elected in November. He replaced Anton Carlson, now deceased, who retired a month before his term expired.

HARDEN was elected president of the Southeast Iowa District County Officers Association for the year 1970. He terminated his 20 years as a county treasurer Dec. 31, 1974, with an extra month.

George A. HARDEN was born Jan. 2, 1906, in Batavia. He was the son of George W. and Josie HOLMES HARDEN but was reared by Jack and Savannah JAMES CURRAY.

He was married July 31, 1937, in Fairfield to Dorothy HIDY who survives.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by a daughter, Jean Ann RODIBAUGH, Grinnell and two grandchildren. Also three sisters, Nellie TYGRET, Moline, Ill.; Freda GOUGHNOUR and Miriam GOUGHNOUR, both of Agency.

... --Mr. and Mrs. Russell Whitney of Fort Dodge and Mr. and Mrs. Jim HIDY of Colorado Springs, Colo., have returned home after attending the funeral of George A. HARDEN. Mrs. Whitney was a roommate of Dorothy HARDEN's 52 years ago at Iowa State University. HIDY is a cousin.

At a time like this, words cannot reveal what the family of Geo. A. HARDEN would like to say to friends, neighbors and relatives for flowers, calls, cards, food, memorials and other expressions of sympathy.

For George, his home, family and the friendship of the people of Jefferson County were his pride and joy.

A very special thank you to Kenneth Harden, Carl Riggs, Drs. Egli and Hill, hospital staff and U.P.W. women.

YOU ARE HEREBY NOTIFIED THAT ON THE 12TH DAY OF JUNE, 1981, THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF GEORGE A. HARDEN DECEASED BEARING DATE OF THE 21ST DAY OF MAY, 1980, WAS ADMITTED TO PROBATE IN THE ABOVE NAMED COURT AND THAT DOROTHY E. HARDEN WAS APPOINTED EXECUTOR OF SAID ESTATE.
