Man Hurt As He Falls From Car

Bruce HANEY, 35, Fairfield, suffered possibly serious head injuries early this afternoon when he fell from a moving pickup truck while it was pushing another car.

HANEY fell to the gravel road, injuring his head in the fall. He was rushed to the Jefferson County hospital where he was still undergoing X-ray examination at 1:50 p.m. The extent of his injuries was not known at that time.

The accident took place near the southeast city limits of Fairfield. He was riding on the side of a pickup driven by Eugene HOAGE, Fairfield. The truck was pushing a car driven by HOAGE's mother in an effort to get the car started.

R. B. HANEY Dies After Truck Fall

Robert Bruce HANEY, 35, 606 E. Adams avenue died Wednesday afternoon at the Jefferson County hospital as the result of injuries received in an auto mishap earlier in the day.

HANEY is the seventh person to die in Jefferson county traffic accidents this year.

Last rites will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Raymond Fuenral home in charge of the Rv. Harold Krugr (sic). Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

HANEY received a fatal brain concussion when he fell from a pickup truck as it was pushing a stalled car. The mishap occurred at 12:45 p.m. on a gravel road at the southeast edge of Fairfield. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance where he died at 4 p.m. without regaining consciousness.

Riding On Bumper

Officers said HANEY was riding on the front bumper of a truck driven by Eugene HOAGE, Fairfield. The truck was pushing a stalled car driven by HOAGE's mother, Mrs. Henry HOAGE. HANEY's shoes were covered with snow, causing him to slip off the rounded bumper and strike his head on the road.

HANEY was employed by the Estle Construction Co. He was born in Jefferson county June 7, 1925, the son of Carroll and Margaret ELDER HANEY. He was married to Eileen COOK in 1945. In 1955 he was married to Hiawana HOAGE, who survives.

Other survivors are a son, Robert Bruce; his parents; Mr. and Mrs. Carroll HANEY, Libertyville; a sister, Mrs. Gifford STONE, Fairfield; and a brother, John HANEY, Libertyville. One brother, Alvin, died in the Korean War (sic - Korean Conflict).

HANEY served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion.

Second wife Hiawana HOAGE COLLETT HANEY HANEY subsequently remarried, to Homer L. EMRY, died in 2005, and was buried in Evergreen Lot 2nd.162.
