Mrs. William S. HAMMOND died at her home on West Briggs street Saturday evening, after a protracted illness. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon, conducted by Rev. G. F. Reinking, pastor of the Baptist church. Mrs. HAMMOND was the youngest daughter of Stephen H. and Elizabeth NUTTING, who made their home in Fairfield for many years. She was born in Philadelphia, N. Y., April 14th, 1845. The family came to Fairfield in 1853, and this city has been her home almost continuously since that time. She was married in 1870 to William S. HAMMOND, who survives her. They were the parents of one child, a daughter who died in infancy. Only three members of her family are now living--C. W. NUTTING at Villisca, F. W. at Prescott and Mrs. H. M. NORTON at Madrid. Mrs. HAMMOND joined the Baptist church of this city in 1865 and was its oldest member with one exception. She was also a prominent member of Fairfield Rebekah lodge, No. 96. She had a wide acquaintance in this city and many warm friends, for she was a woman of many excellences, while in the church and in the society to which she belonged she was an energetic and active worker.
Mr. HAMMOND desires to return his sincere thanks to the neighbors and friends who have shown him so many kindnesses during the illness of his wife.
