Harold HALLBERG, Local Hatchery Operator, Dies

Harold HALLBERG, operator of the Fairfield Chick Hatchery, died suddenly this morning of a heart attack while making repairs on an incubator at his place of business.

His wife was in the back room feeding and watering chickens when she heard an unusual noise in the front room. She found her husband on the floor at the rear of the incubator where he had been installing a new belt.

Mrs. HALLBERG started to call a doctor but her husband requested that she not make the call, stating that he was all right again.

He got to his feet, walked to the center of the room, and toppled over dead. He had been in his usual health until stricken early this morning.

Mr. and Hrs. HALLBERG who reside at 100 E. Lowe street, reported for work about 5 a.m. He passed away about an hour later. The hatchery is located at 119 N. Court street.

Last rites will be Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with Dr. L. L. Weis in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Harold W. HALLBERG, 52, was born April 4, 1901, in Ottumwa, the son of the late Charles and Johanna PETERSON HALLBERG. He was reared and educated in Ottumwa.

He was united in marriage on Oct. 30, 1926, to Evelyn ZEIGLER of Fairfield. The couple lived in Ottumwa for a few years and then moved to Fairfield in 1931. In 1936 they moved to Cleveland, O., where they made their home until returning to Fairfield in 1946 to operate the Fairfield Chick Hatchery.

HALLBERG was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran church in Ottumwa, the Masonic lodge, Lions club and Elks.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one brother and three sisters: Frank HALLBERG, Chicago; Mrs. E. F. PIERCE, Cleveland; Mrs. A. D. CURTIS, Des Moines, and Mrs. Fred BLOSS, Ottumwa.

... The Rev. S. P. Williamson conducted a brief memorial service for Harold HALLBERG, an active member who died suddenly last Saturday. Williamson's appropriate remarks were built around the theme that life and friendship are a "two-way street" and paid a fitting tribute to the departed member.
