W. E. HALFERTY
William Elvin HALFERTY, son of John and Eliza HALFERTY, was born Oct. 16, 1858, in Butler, Ohio, and departed this life July 15, 1930, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fern R. HALL of Fairfield, Iowa. On June 12, 1883, he was united in marriage to Minnie J. BALDERSON who passed away Jan. 19, 1920, in this city. To this union were born the following children who are left to mourn her loss: Mrs. Fay W. Riggs, Mrs. Verne R. HALL, Bruce R. Halferty all of Fairfield; Mrs. Chas. DAVEY of Oklahoma City, Akla. (sic), Mrs. Edith E. WRAY and Miss Bertha HALFERTY of Des Moines. He also leaves eight grandchildren to whom he was greatly devoted. A brother, J. E. HALFERTY, of Kimberly, Idaho, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary E. LONG and Mrs. Fannie CHACEY of Richland, also survive.
Mr. HALFERTY and his family made their home on a farm near Libertyville for a number of years, coming to this city in 1918 to make their residence. Mr. HALFERTY had been a member of the Methodist church for many years, and was also a member of Odd Fellows lodge No. 4.
He was a kind and loving father, always having the welfare of his family first in his heart and numbered his friends by his acquaintances.
Mr. HALFERTY was an active realtor in this city and his sudden death came as a shock to his relatives and many friends. He had driven to the home of his daughter and upon arrival there complained of a severe pain in his heart, which seemed to grow worse and the end came in a few minutes.
It was the privilege of his daughters, Mrs. Verne R. HALL and Mrs. Fay RIGGS, also of an old friend and neighbor, Ora HALL, to minister to him during the last few minutes of his life. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 17, at the Fay W. RIGGS home, conducted by Rev. S. P. Williamson of the Christian church and by the Odd Fellows lodge. The body was laid to rest by the side of his wife, in Evergreen cemetery.
