Death of an Aged Woman.

Mrs. Hannah J. HALFERTY died at the home of an adopted daughter, Mrs. Erastus SHAFER, in this city Saturday morning. She had been ill with paralysis for several months. Mrs. HALFERTY's maiden name was PEARCE and she was born in Richland county, O., May 12th, 1820. She was married to William HALFERTY in Ohio April 12th, 1837, and the husband died in this city December 30th, 1899, at the age of eighty-eight. One child was born to them, Van P., who died at West Plains, Mo., May 14th, 1862, a soldier in the Civil war. Mr. and Mrs. HALFERTY came to Iowa in 1850 and located in Keokuk county. They made their home in Dallas county for several years and had resided here since 1872. Mrs. HALFERTY had no relatives nearer than nieces, and four of these were with her in her last illness--Mrs. S. P. BELL of this city, Mrs. A. D. FOUST of Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Joseph ROOP of Hedrick and Mrs. Riley FYE of Ollie. Mrs. HALFERTY had been a member of the Baptist church since girlhood and her life was consistent with its teachings. She was a good woman and many friends will cherish memories of her. Funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. SHAFER Monday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. A. W. Miller, pastor of the Baptist church, assisted by Rev. W. J. Funkey and Rev. Thos. Osborn.
