MRS. P. I. HAISTON DIED THIS MORNING

Mrs. Peter I. HAISTON died this morning shortly after 4:30 o'clock at her home on West Grimes street of heart failure. She had been in ill health for the past three years enduring a tedious illness during the winter months. She had been ill for several months this winter but seemed to be slowly improving during the past few days and her family were hoping that she would soon be able to be up and around her home again.

She had been feeling much better for several days and rested pretty well throughout the night until about four o'clock this morning when she called her husband to her bedside complaining that she felt like she was smothering. Mr.HAISTON (sic) began to fan her for a few minutes and while he was doing so she fell back dead. Her death was a terrible shock to the husband and children.

Elizabeth VAN SANT-HAISTON was born near Wooster, Ohio., May 17-1844 and when yet a child she came with her parents to Iowa and settled in Washington county. On February 18-1864 she was united in marriage to Peter I. HAISTON in Washington county. Mr. and Mrs. HAISTON made their home in Brighton for a number of years moving to Fairfield about twenty years ago(.)

Mr. and Mrs. HAISTON were the parents of seven children, the oldest son John having already passed over the river of death. The remaining six children are, Mrs. J. E. McDANIELS, Mrs. Laura WALKER es HAISTON (sic) of this city and Fred HAISTON of this city and Fred HAISTON (sic) of Davenport. Beside the members of her own family, Mrs. HAISTON is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Cassie LIVINGSTON, and Mrs. David LIVINGSTON of Wayland, Iowa and three brothers, William VAN SANT and Isiah VAN SANT of Wayland and Amos VAN SANT of Columbus Junction.

Msr. HAISTON was a member of the Baptist church of this city and was an industrious woman highly respected by a large number of friends and acquaintainces. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the residence(.) Rev. Jonathan Lee of Ottumwa will conduct the last services.

Mrs. P. I. HOISTON (sic)

After a prolonged illness, Mrs. P. I. HAISTON died at her home on West Grimes street on Saturday morning, May 1st, 1909.

Although Mrs. HAISTON had been ill for many months, yet her death was a shock to her family and friends, as she had seemed better of late, and the end was not expected.

Throughout the night before her death she had rested well and seemed decidedly better until about four o'clock in the morning, when she awoke and requested her husband to fan her, as she felt smothered. While he was doing so she fell back and life was gone. The suddenness of the blow produced a great shock to the husband and children, who could not realize their loss in the first moments of surprise and grief.

Elizabeth VAN SANT HAISTON was born at Wooster, Ohio, May 17, 1844. When a little child she came with her parents to Iowa, where she grew to womanhood, and on February 18, 1864, she was united in marriage to Peter I. HAISTON. Mr. and Mrs. HAISTON lived in Brighton for a number of years, then moved to this city, where they have made their home for the past twenty years.

Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. HAISTON, six of whom are living, the eldest son having preceded his mother across the river of death.

Mrs. HAISTON was a member of the Baptist church of this city, and during her residence here has endeared herself to large numbers of friends who join with the family in grief for the one who has gone.

Funeral services were held at the residence on Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Jonathan Lee, of Ottumwa, and interment made in Evergreen cemetery.

We desire to extend our sincerest thanks to the many neighbors and friends who were so kind to us during the recent serious illness and subsequent death of our beloved wife and mother. Especially do we thank those friends who sent such beautiful floral offerings with their sympathies. The girls of the Jefferson County Telephone office who rendered us such excellent service in times of sickness and death have our grateful appreciations.

Mrs. Peter I. HAISTON died at their home on West Grimes street of heart failure Saturday morning. She had been in poor health for some time but her death was sudden and unexpected. The funeral services were held from the residence Monday afternoon couducted by Rev. Jonathan Lee of Ottumwa. Mrs. HAISTON was born near Wooster, Ohio, May 17, 1844, and came with her parents to Washington County, Iowa, where she was married to Peter HAISTON Feb. 18, 1864. She leaves a husband and six children to mourn their loss. Comrade HAISTON has the sympathy of all the old soldiers in the city.
