Thursday, December 7, 1944Mercer County Restaurant Man Takes Own Life
Aledo -- C. H. GUSTISON, 61, who had operated a restaurant at Seaton since last June, fatally shot himself in the chest with a .12-gauge shotgun early this morning.
The body was found in the basement of the restaurant by Dick Vance who operates a service station nearby.
Mr. GUSTISON formerly farmed near Aledo many years. He is survived by the widow, a daughter, Mrs. Lester EVANS, and a son, Lee GUSTISON.

Carmel GUSTISON, 59, former resident of Jefferson county, passed away Thursday, December 7, at his home in Seaton, Ill. Funeral services will be held in Seaton at 10:00 Monday morning. Interment will be here in theEvergreen cemetery (sic) with short services at the grave at 2:00 p.m. Monday.
Mr. GUSTISON was born and raised ast (sic) of the city and was a resident of Jefferson county until he moved to Illinois about 25 years ago.
Surviving are his wife, the former Etta ARNETT ADAMS; one son, Leigh GUSTISON of the U. S. Coast Guard, recently returned to the States from Hawaii; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Lester EVANS, Winfield, Ia.; his mother, Mrs. Charlotte GUSTISON, Seattle, Wash.; two brothers, Ward GUSTISON and Capt. Virgil GUSTISON, and one sister, Mrs. Myrtle GATES, all of Seattle.
Mr. GUSTISON's first wife, the former Miss Belle CARTER of Fairfield, passed away about 30 years ago.

Funeral services for Carmel GUSTISON, former resident who passed away at his home in Seaton, Ill., on December 7, were held today in Aledo, Ill. Burial and services were not to be held here today as previously announced, but will be postponed until later when the son, Leigh GUSTISON, of the Coast Guard, arrives at home from the west coast. Leigh was to have come by plane from Washington state but has been delayed by the storm.
