MRS. R. GUDGELL DIED SUDDENLY

Was on Visit in Kansas; Body to be Brought Back

Mrs. R. J. GUDGELL, 74, of 504 South Second street, passed away at 5:30 o'clock this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nelson GREEN, in Lawrence, Kansas. Mrs. GUDGELL left Fairfield one week ago for a visit with her daughter.

The body will be returned to Fairfield for burial. An announcement in regard to the funeral services will be made by relatives tomorrow.

SERVICES FOR MRES. R. J. GUDGELL HERE THURSDAY AT 3:30

Funeral services for Mrs. R. J. GUDGELL will be held at the home, 504 South Third street, Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock with Rev. S. P. Williamson in charge. The body will rest at the home until that time. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Mrs. GUDGELL, 74, passed away Monday morning at the home of her daughter Mrs. Nelson GREEN in Lawrence, Kans. The body arrived in Fairfield last night.

Notice is hereby given that an instrument, purporting to be the Last Will and Testament of Phoebe A. GUDGELL, deceased, is now on file in the office of the Clerk of the District Court of Jefferson County, Iowa, and that Wednesday, May 2, A. D., 1934 at 9:30 a.m., has been set for proof and final hearing of same.

Witness my hand and the Seal of said Court, this 6th day of April, 1934.

OBITUARY

MRS. R. J. GUDGEL (sic)

Phoebe Ann, last surviving of the three children of Jackson and Diana HENDERSON, was born in Louisa county Iowa, on April 21, 1859. She passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Laura GREEN on Monday, April 2, when within 19 days of being 75 years old. In her childhood the family moved to Jacksonville, Ill., and her home was there till (sic) 1877, when she returned to Iowa to make her home in Fairfield. The remainder of her life, excepting the years spent in Brighton, were lived in Fairfield.

On August 10, 1876, she was married to Richard J. GUDGELL and lived happily in this union till (sic) he passed away on April 18, 1921. Sight (sic - eight) children were born to them five of whom survive. Three have preceded their mother in death. Jackson, who died when four years of age; Robert who passed away on Dec. 20, 1913; and Love COPELAND who passed away No. 17, 1920 (sic). The surviving children are Lycurgus of Rock Island; Mrs. Laura GREEN of Lawrence, Kansas; Henry Clay of Fairfield; Mrs. Lila NICHOLS and Mrs. Susie GREEN of Burlington. Besides these there are 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren surviving and one half sister, Norah MAUL of Lidaberry, Ill. besides these are many other relatives and a wide circle of friends who will mourn her passing.

She was a faithful and devout member of the First Christian church of Fairfield, confessing her faith in the ministery of Rev. Leander Lane and in a meeting held by Evangelist Roming. She found great comfort and satisfaction in her Christian experience and was always willing to do her part in the church life. She held membership for many years in the local unit of the W. R. C.

Mrs. GUDGELL had been in failing health for over a year. Her death came while visiting at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Laura GREEN in Lawrence, Kansas, at 5 o'clock on Monday morning.
