Clayton GUDGELL, 82, lifetime resident of the Fairfield Community, died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Jefferson County Hospital.
He had been seriously ill the past week following a stroke he suffered at his home at 506 N. Fourth.
Last rites will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. E. Wayne Ryan in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Clayton GUDGELL was born March 16, 1887, in Jefferson County, the son of Richard and Phoebe HENDERSON GUDGELL.
He married Marie LUNDIN on April 5, 1920, at Davenport. He had been a painter and decorator in this community for over 40 years. He was a longtome member of the Eagles Lodge (sic - Aerie/Club) and in 1916 was a member of Company M, Iowa National Guard, that went to Texas and the Mexican border.
Survivors include his widow and two daughters, Mrs. Roy HALL, Iowa City, and Mrs. Dorothy HOKE, Richmond, Calif.; one granddaughter; and two sisters, Mrs. Harley GREEN, Burlington, and Mrs. Ralph NICHOLS, Fort Lupton, Colo.
He was preceded in death by two sons.
