OPERATOR OF ELEVATOR 30 YEARS, DIES

Death suddenly took the life of one of Fairfield's well known retired business men yesterday. He is Harlan GOSSICK, 62, who died when struck with a heart attack while sitting on a davenport at his home, 53 north D street, at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Mr. GOSSICK had been in his usual health, although he was not feeling well Wednesday morning. His illness was not considered serious, however, and his death came as a sudden shock to his family and many friends.

He had operated the Gossick Mill near the Rock Island railroad for 30 years. Mr. GOSSICK sold the business and retired about two years ago. While in business, he was well known by many people throughout the county, and took an active part in community affairs.

Born in Jefferson county January 16, 1884, he lived his entire life in this community. He was the son of the late Ben and Emma VAN NOSTRAND GOSSICK. He arried (sic) Flossie ROGERS in 1912.

Mr. GOSSICK is survived by his wife and son, Ben, of Morristown, New Jersey; and two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Mary. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. D. E. CLARK, Ventura, California; and Mrs. C. W. ANNAND, Paradise, California.

The body was taken to the Hoskins funeral home where last rites are pending word from relatives.
