DEATHS

... JAMES W. GORDON

James W. GORDON, former resident of Fairfield and Jefferson county, passed away at his home near Bentonsport yesterday. Funeral services will be held from his home at one o'clock tomorrow.

The body will be brought to Fairfield where burial will take place in Evergreen cemetery. ...

OBITUARY

J. W. GORDON

James William GORDON, son of Adam and Lydia GORDON, was born in Waynesburg, Penn., Seut. (sic) 19, 1856, an (sic) departed from this life February 5, 1932, age 75 years, 4 months, and 14 days.

His mother preceded him in death when he was six months old leaving him to the tender care of his aunt and uncle, Elizabeth and S. R. HUSS.

He came to Fairfield, Iowa, in the year 1876 and was married to Cora A. VAN NATTA (sic - VANNATTA), October 18, 1884. To this union were born seven children, one daughter dying when 9 months old. With his family he moved to the farm near Bentonsport, in 1910, where they have resided since that time

He leaves to mourn their loss four daughters, (Mrs. Lydia STANSELL of Fairfield, Mrs. Hazel STARH of Mt. Sterling, Mrs. Gail RANKIN of Keosauqua and Mrs. VanNetta GRIMES of St. Charles. Two sons, James Clark of Bentonsport, and William A. of Burlington, nine grandchildren, one grandchild Don GORDON dying in infancy, and three half-brothers, all of Pennsylvania, survive.

Apparently enjoying the best of health he was stricken and afted (sic) a brief illness of 36 hours passed to the Great Beyond. All that tender care and loving hands could do for him was of no avail.

Funeral services were held from the home Sunday afternoon Feb. 7, at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. M. E. Hayes pastor of the Keosauqua Methodist church. Interment was in the Evergreen cemetery at Fairfield.
