DEATH TAKES LYLE GOODELL

Funeral Services Friday at 2 O'clock from Baptist Church

Lyle GOODELL, the 18-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. GOODELL, passed away at the family home, 805 West Briggs street at 2:35 o'clock this morning after an illness extending over several months.

Lyle, or 'Jack' as he was more familiarly known by his companions and friends, suffered an injury a year ago last May while playing basketball with a number of companions.. The injury was not considered at all serious at first but later in the summer, it began to bother him until on November 15th of last year he was admitted to the Iowa City hospital for treatment, remaining there most of the time until this spring when he was brought home for a rest, but he was from that time unable to return, and while everything that physicians, ministering hands of loved ones and friends could do, was done for him, yet with it all he could not recover.

Lyle was a lovable young fellow and numbered his friends by his acquaintances, being of a kindly nature and most generous, he was loved by all who knew him. He was a member of the Fairfield high school, but during the past year was unable but for a brief period, to continue his high school studies.

Besides his parents he leaves one sister, Dorothy, and a brother, LaVerne, both at home.

Funeral services will be held from the First Baptist church at 2:00 oclock Friday afternoon in charge of the pastor, Rev. Fred G. Crown, who became a special friend and admirer of Lyle during his months of illness. Interment in Evergreen cemetery.

OBITUARY

ROLAND LYLE GOODELL

Roland Lyle GOODELL was born in Portland, Oregon on February 13th, 1913. When Lyle was but three months of age the family returned to Fairfield from their sojourn in the west and he has continuously made his home in this city, until the time of his death.

Lyle, or "Jack" as he was familiarly known by his associates and friends grew up to young manhood here, attending the city schools and was loved and respected by his companions, teachers and all others with whom he came in contact, but unlike many other youngsters he was very kindly and considerate of others and nothing seemed to give him more pleasure than doing some act of kindness for older people. He was a member of the Fairfield High School although his illness prevented his attending but a short period of time during the past school year.

In May of last year, he received what was considered a minor injury while playing with some companions and little was at first thought of this injury until some time later it developed into serious proportions and on November 19th of last year he was admitted to the Iowa City hospital for medical and surgical attended by a large concourse of waited to long to secure relief (sic) and from that time until the time of his death he was a constant but patient sufferer with no words of complaint during the many weeks of affliction.

During his last illness Lyle confessed faith in Jesus Christ and accepted him as his personal Saviour and spent part of his time reading his testament and expressed himself as ready to go at any time.

Everything possible was done by physicians, surgeons, kindly ministering hands of nurses, devoted parents and willing friends but to no avail and he passed away early on the morning of July 22d to meet his Lord.

He leaves his loving parents two sisters, Mrs. Letha COURTNEY of Libertyville and Dorothy at home, also one brother La Vern also at home as well as hosts of devoted friends who mourn his untimely death.

Funeral services were held from the First Baptist church on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by the pastor, Rev. Fred Crown. The service was attended by a large concourse of sorrowing friends and the beautiful floral offerings attested the esteem in which the young man was held by all. Six young friends acted as casket attendants while Mrs. Fred Crown and J. C. Howell sang the beautiful songs with Mrs. Harley Hoopes at the piano. Interment was at Evergreen cemetery.
