H. F. GOODALE To Iowa City

Herbert F. GOODALE, 91, former sheriff of Jefferson County, was taken to University Hospital in Iowa City Tuesday afternoon where he is to undergo surgery for a broken hip.

He suffered his injury in a fall Monday night at the Nelson Nursing Home where he has been a patient since last May. He was taken to the Jefferson County Hospital where X-ray examination revealed the broken hip. He was taken to Iowa City by ambulance.

Mrs. GOODALE planned to go to Iowa City this afternoon to be with her husband. Her home is at 301 W. Hempstead.

H. GOODALE Rites Set

Herbert F. GOODALE, 91, 301 W. Hempstead, died at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Nelson Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church with the Rev. J.E. Dorman officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery with Masonic Rites at the grave.

Members of the family will be at the Weston Behner Funeral Home from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.

GOODALE had been a resident of Jefferson County for many years and operated the country store at Glasgow. He served two terms as Jefferson County Sheriff from 1938 to 1942.

He also served as a member of the Fairfield Police Department and later operated his own insurance business until his retirement.

GOODALE was a member of the First Christian Church and a 63-year member of the Masonic Lodge and was also a member of the Star of Bethlehem Shrine No. 44. He was presented his 50-year certificate and pin from the Masonic Lodge during special ceremonies at the Masonic Hall April 1, 1963.

Herbert F. GOODALE was born May 1, 1884, in Arthur, Ill., the son of Edwain and Florence BOYLES GOODALE. He was married to Arminda KREIDER in 1908 and she died in 1960.

His marriage to Doretta ROGERS took place June 10, 1961 in Buffalo, N.Y.

In addition to his widow he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Alma SHOEMAKER, Bremerton, Wash.; also five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and four stepchildren.
