David James LEWIS of Fairfield, Iowa and Matairie, Louisiana passed away in the afternoon of September 18, 2023, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield. He was cremated at Cranston Family Funeral Home. A memorial for David will take place at Morningstar Studio on October 31 at 7:15 - 9 PM, presided over by Jennifer Hamilton. The memorial service will be followed by a reception with food.

David was born to Minnie and James LEWIS on August 24, 1947, in the Naval Hospital in Bethesda Maryland while his father was a musician in the Navy band. David grew up in Lafayette, California. Most of his family members originated in the Bay Area. David received a bachelor's degree from Berkeley in his early 20s and went on to become a teacher of Transcendental Meditationfor many years. He was self-emloyed for most of his life. David remained physically active while living with a heart condition for two decades after a diagnosis at Mayo Clinic in 2003. He loved running, fitness, walking, participating in races, including a 6-mile race a few months after he nearly passed away at UIHC in January 2019. He was passionate about Zydeco music and dance, participating in Zydeco events for many years in Louisiana and offering classes in Zydeco dance from time to time in Fairfield.

David was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie (LEWIS) CHAMBERLAIN, father, James LEWIS, his stepfather, Bill CHAMBERLAIN, his sister Barbara LEWIS and nephew, Bobby LEWIS. He is survived by his brother, Marty LEWIS, his son, Taren LEWIS, niece, Melissa LEWIS and former spouse, Cherie SAMPSON.
