Page 8, Column 3Illness Fatal To Mrs. GLASS
Mrs. Clarence GLASS, native of Jefferson County and a long-time resident of the Fairfield Community, died at 12:35 a.m. today at her home, 206 E. Adams. She had been in failing health some time and seriously ill the past three weeks.
Last riges (sic) will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Millard Marshall, Keosauqua, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will received relatives and friends at the funeral home from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Mrs. Edith GLASS was born near Glasgow, the daughter of David N. and Clara READY SENSE. Her grandparents came to Jefferson County in 1839 and homesteaded southwest of Fairfield.
She was married to Clarence GLASS June 4, 1917 at Rock Island, Ill. She was reared and educated in Fairfield and graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls.
She taught schools in Fairfield and Birmingham for a number of years.
Mrs. GLASS was a member of the United Methodist Church, and held a life membership in WSCS. She was a past president of Last Chance Barracks of World War I and Legion Post Auxiliaries, a member of the Fairfield Women's Club and National Association of Retired Teachers.
She was a member of Netaker Temple, Daughters of the Nile in Des Moines; Orthopedic Serving Club, Ottumwa; Consistory Ladies Club, Des Moines; Order of Amaranth, Ottumwa; and past president of the Social Order of Beaucant in Ottumwa and the Past President Club.
Mrs. GLASS is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Lloyd PAYNE, Colorado Springs, Colo., two grandchildren and a brother, Earl SENSE, Tacoma, Wash. She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Nell White, president, conducted the business meeting. A moment of silent prayer was observed in the memory of Mrs. Clarence GLASS, whose funeral in the morning had been attended by the group. Lucile Sipe and Lydia Creel were appointed to select a book to be placed in the Fairfield Public Library as a memorial to her. ...

Mrs. PAYNE had been here with her parents, the GLASSes, for two weeks, and she and her family have returned home. GLASS's sister, Mrs. David ALLEN of Clearwater, Fla., has also been here and will remain for an extended visit.
