L. E. "Ed" GIRE, 79, 412 North B St., died at 5:05 a.m. today at the Jefferson County Hospital. He entered the hospital Thursday evening.
GIRE was a retired farmer and a lifetime resident of Van Buren and Jefferson Counties. He had made his home in Fairfield since 1961.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Dean W. Berg officiating. Military rites by the American Legion will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
GIRE was born Aug. 24, 1892 in Van Buren County, the son of Selby and Minnie LEWIS GIRE. He was married June 1, 1918 to Edith M. ANDERSON.
GIRE was a veteran of World War I, a member of the First Lutheran Church and the American Legion. Surviving are his widow and two daughters, Mrs. Paul BOYSEL, Fairfield; and Mrs. Thomas KAUFFMAN, Andrews AFB, Washington, D.C.
Other survivors are one grandson and two sisters, Mrs. Walter COOK, Fairfield; and Mrs. George HILL, Davenport. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
