Edith M. GIRE dies at 96

Edith M. GIRE, 96, longtime resident of the Fairfield Community, died at 9:30 p.m. Sunday at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Keosauqua (note: in Van Buren Co., IA).

Her home had been at 51 N. Morgan before she moved to the Care Center 11 years ago.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Behner Funeral Home with burial in Evergreen Cemetry.

Edith M. GIRE was born Sept. 4, 1887, in Jefferson County. She was the daughter of Gustaf and Emma ANDERSON. She was married to Edward GIRE June 1, 1918, in Fairfield. He died Aug. 18, 1972.

Survivors include two daughters, Elaine BOYSEL, Fairfield, and Carolyn KAUFFMAN, Fairfax, Va., and one grandson.

She was preceded in death by four brothers. Mrs. GIRE was a member of the First Lutheran Church.

GIRE funeral to be Wednesday

Services for Edith M. GIRE, 95, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Connor officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home and memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Home in Keosauqua.

Edith GIRE died at 9:30 p.m. Sunday at the Good Samaritan Home where she had been a resident for the past 11 years. Previously she had lived at 51 N. Morgan in Fairfield.

A very special thank you to relatives and friends for food, memorials, flowers, cards and calls at the time of loss of our loved one. Thanks to Rev. Robert Connor, to Betty McNiel for music, to Doctors Worrell and Furumoto and to everyone at Good Samaritan Care Center in Keosauqua where Mother had lived since leaving her home at 412 North B in Fairfield in February of 1973. May God bless each one of you.
