JOHN C. MARTIN
Milan, IL

John C. MARTIN, of Milan, IL, and formerly of Fairfield, IA, passed away on October 4, 2023, at his home. A graveside service will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, IA, with Pastor Danny Cary officiating. Visitation will begin at noon on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield and will last until 1:15 p.m. when a procession will form to go to the cemetery. John C. MARTIN was born on May 30, 1942, in Fairfield, IA, the son of Carl I. and Francis HICKENBOTTOM MARTIN. John married Sharon RIDGEWAY and later divorced. He grew up in Fairfield, IA, and graduated from Fairfield High School. He went to work at J & B Plastic in Fairfield. John moved to Milan, IL and retired after 30 years from John Deere Plow & Planter, East Moline.

John was a member of the UAW Local 34 for 30 years, was a Free Mason for 50 years, and a member of AA for 26 years.

John loved hotrods, motorcycles and stockcar races. He always loved to tell a good joke. He enjoyed playing pool and helping people. He had a special cat Freckles.

Survivors include a son, Ed (Tina) MARTIN of Rock Island, IL; a daughter, Sheri LAWSON of Milan, IL; a brother, Dean (Julie) MARTIN of Bonaire, GA; six grandchildren, John WIDTFELDT, Travis MARTIN, Trent MARTIN, Cody LAWSON, Colt LAWSON and Chance LAWSON; as well as five great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nancy BUCKINGHAM.
