OBITUARY

Ralph Homer GILBERT

Ralph Homer GILBERT, the oldest child of William D. and May GILBERT was born on March 2, 1905. A few months illness during which his loving home and skillful professional care proved unavailaing, ended his life of just over 22 years on March 9, 1927, his birthplace being the home of his departure.

Ralph had shared with his father the duties of the farm, having been for some time apartner (sic) with him. He was a loyal member of the home, faithful to its common interests. His social contacts were pleasant and cheering. He formed special friendships but not exclusive ones. He had a smile and greeting for us all. His Sunday school class will remember when he was with it, his courteous and thoughtful sharing of its work and here, in the social group, and most of all in the home, "the vacant chair" of which he sang a few hours before his passing will be a reminder of his kindly life.

Yet with his parents are his four brothers and sisters: Dorothy, Clarence, Paul and Ruth. To them and his friends the thrust of the Reaper's sickle has brought sorrow but it has also given a cherished memory.

How true and numerous were his friendships were shown not alone at the last service but during the ebbing of his life and when the time for that service came the abundant flowers speaking their message of love and of life also spoke comfort to the hearts of which he was a peculiar treasure. At the residence the pastor of the home church gave God's promise of immortality. A quartet of Messrs Ferren, Lowenberg Linder and Miller singing "Jesus, Saviour, Pilot Me," and "Abide With Me." His body borne by six of his intimate friends, Wayne Weaver, Dwight Miller, Silbert Avery, Ray Roberts, Laurence Bush and Maynard Barton was laid to rest in the Evergreen cemetery at Fairfield.
