Death came last night to Dr. Clarke W. GEORGE, long-time resident of Fairfield and a dentist for over a quarter of a century.
He passed away at 10:30 p.m. at the Jefferson County hospital where he had been a patient since Oct. 20. He underwent an operation at Iowa City 14 weeks ago and was later brought to the hospital here.
Last rites will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the Hoskins Funeral Home with Dr. E. L. Weis in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Clarke William GEORGE, 58, was born March 19, 1895, at Dexter, Ia., the son of W. H. and Olive NOLTE GEORGE. His father was the founder of the Dexter Washing Machine company and the family moved to Fairfield when the firm was moved to this community.
Dr. GEORGE attended schools here and was graduated from the Fairfield high school. He had been a resident of the community for 40 years.
He began his practice of dentistry in 1927, and for the past several years he had been practicing in Fairfield. He was a member of the Methodist church, Elks, Eagles, Izaak Walton league, Legion and the American Dental association.
Dr. GEORGE was interested in the youth of the community and was among those who started the movement to secure a swimming pool for Fairfield. He traveled many miles and made studies of several pools in gathering information and plans for the local project.
He was united in marriage on Sept. 1, 1940, to Edith Lucille HOSKINS who survives. The wedding took place at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Ia.
Besides his wife, Dr. GEORGE is survived by his mother, Mrs. W. H. GEORGE, Fairfield; and two daughters, Mrs. R. J. FLINT, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Mrs. G. E. BISHOP, Des Moines. He is also survived by two sisters: Mrs. Foss HEATON, Creston, Ia., and Mrs. Cody LUSE, Moravia.
