Page 3, col. 4.HE WAS AN OLD FAIRFIELD MAN. Leman J. Allen, who resided in this city for many years, before and after the Civil War, died in Oskaloosa the 10th inst. He was twice married, and his second wife and two sons survive him. Mr. Allen was born at Bath, New York, July 31, 1833. He came to Iowa with his parents in 1848, and lived in Decatur County for several years. He was married here to a daughter of the late Samuel Noble. In 1862 he enlisted as a private in Co. B, 19th IVI, and was Lieut. In another regiment when mustered out of the service of the United States at Keokuk. He removed to Ottumwa in 1866 and was a policeman and city marshal for several years. He went to Oskaloosa in 1883 and was engaged in the manufacture of steam boilers and fittings and was appointed chief of police in that city. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, an Odd Fellow and a Knight of Pythias, and was at one time colonel of the Second Regiment, Uniform Rank, of that order. He was a brave soldier and a good citizen.
