A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 5, from 11 to 2 p.m. at the VFW - 121 E. Broadway in Fairfield, Iowa. Lunch will be served.

Shirley was born August 23, 1931, in Fairfield, Iowa, to Louis and Merta PEQUIGNOT. Shirley had one brother, Lewis and one sister, Donna, both deceased.

Shirley married Emil HESTON Jr. 71 years ago, October 16, 1951. He preceded her in death on October 26, 2013. She was blessed with five children, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Daughter, Nannette ADAM of Richland, grandchildren, Matthew (Kim) and Jessica (Derek); son, Bruce (Stacey) of Des Moines, grandchildren, Maxwell, Alexander (Kristina) and Jack; daughter, Sheri and granddaughter, Amy; sons, Mark and Michael of Des Moines. Sheri and Mark are both deceased.

Shirley lived in Fairfield most all her life except for the last 4 years when she moved to Urbandale Health Care Center in Urbandale, Iowa. Shirley and her family would like to thank all her friends at the Urbandale Health Care Center for the love and support she received: the residents, nurses, aides and staff during her stay. Also, we would like to thank Suncrest Hospice for their great support. It was truly appreciated.

Shirley had a love of food her entire life. She was considered by all who knew her to be a great cook. Everything was prepared by memory and touch. She took this love and both managed and owned restaurants for many decades. After retiring as a restaurant owner, she remained in the food business. She cooked and served meals to the prisoners of the Jefferson County Jail for many years. It was said more than a few times that he prisoners often didn't want to leave when their time was up (true story), the food was too good. Shirley also sold real estate for several years with Lefty's Real Estate in Fairfield.

Another love was bowling. She participated in leages and state tournaments for over 50 consecutive years. She had no greater joy than seeing her children and grandchildren and all the activities they were involved in. Join us in remembering Shirley. She will be missed but certainly not forgotten.

Online condolences may be made to the family at behnerfh.com.
