W. D. GARMOE DIED SATURDAY
Was a Former Justice of the Peace Here and a Well Known Business Man

William Dennis GARMOE, senior member of the W. D. GARMOE & Son real estate and insurance firm and a former Justice of the Peace here, passed away Saturday evening at 8:15 o'clock at his home, 301 East Hempstead street, after being in ill health for the past two years.

The funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Methodist church in charge of Dr. U. S. Smith, who was assisted by Rev. J. I. Dool. Interment took place in Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. GARMOE was born Sept. 29, 1855, northeast of Fairfield and he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Josiah GARMOE. He was married near Winfield to M. Lois THOMPSON in early life and she survives with two children: Carl E. of this city and M. E. GARMOE of Cedar Rapids. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. C. D. McPEEK of this city and a half sister, Mrs. G. W. POOL of Crawfordsville.

... Mrs. O. F. STEIGLEDER received word of the death of her uncle, W. D. GARMOE of Fairfield on Saturday night. Mrs. GARMOE is an aunt of Mrs. STEIGLEDER. Mr. and Mrs. STEIGLEDER drove to Fairfield Sunday afternoon and attended the funeral on Monday afternoon. Mr. GARMOE was known here having sold insurance for a number of years.

OBITUARY

William Dennis GARMOE

William Dennis GARMOE, son of Josiah and Hannah GARMOE was born Sept. 29, 1855 in Jefferson County Iowa, and passed away at his home in Fairfield, Feb. 9, 1929 following a long illness.

He was converted in early youth and joined the Methodist church. After finishing in the rural schools he attended a select school conducted by Mrs. Atchinson in Fairfield, where he was later elected teacher of mathematics. He also attended Parsons College and Iowa Wesleyan College. He engaged in school teaching for a period of eight years, being principal of the Batavia Brookville and Salem schols (sic). He was engaged in the grocery business for a short time; but later began writing insurance which he made his life work.

In 1880 he was united in marriage to Lois THOMPSON of Fairfield. To this union were born three children. One daughter Vera Ina who died at the age of 2½ years, two sons Merle E. of Cedar Rapids and Carl E. of Fairfield who with his widow survive him. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. C. B. McPEEK of Fairfield and Mrs. G. W. POOL of Crawfordsville.

While in Winfield, where he and his family lived for 32 years he held many positions of honor and trust. He took a special interest in the church there and was secretary of the official board, quarterly conference secretary, and Sunday school superintendent for a number of years.

He returned to Fairfield in 1915 where he and his son Carl engaged in the real estate and insurance business. He was also Justice of the Peace for three terms.

He was a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge for about 38 years, being a member of Jefferson lodge No. 4 of Fairfield at the time of his death.

The funeral services were conducted at the M. E. church in Fairfield Feb. 11 by his pastor, Dr. U S. Smith assisted by Rev. J. I. Dool a former neighbor and friend of the deceased.

Burial was made in Evergreen cemetery.
