Richard Nicholson, 79, of 2699 116th St., Brighton, died at 4:20 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Raymond Funeral Home, with the Rev. Thomas Raphael-Nakos officiating. Burial will be in Howard Grove Cemetery west of Pleasant Plain.

Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established to Hospice of Central Iowa, American Cancer Society or Jefferson County 4-H Foundation.

Mr. Nicholson was born Jan. 3, 1926, in Washington County, the son of Raymond William and Kathryn Frey Nicholson. He married Helen Greiner Dec. 9, 1955, in Fairfield.

He grew up in the Washington, Iowa, and Richland communities. The couple lived in East Pleasant Plain since 1973.

Mr. Nicholson worked as a machinist for 30 years at American Chain & Cable in Fairfield. He was a member of the machinist union.

Survivors include his wife; and two daughters, Gloria Wasson and husband Don of Libertyville and Goldie Davis and husband Randy of Westminister, Colo.; two sisters, Lucille Parker of Tucson, Ariz., and Annabelle McCarty of Arcadia, Calif.; one brother, Fred Nicholson of Topeka, Kan.; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
